Summary:

Manna wakes up bright and early every morning for her usual morning routine. She has a winery to run and a husband she loves very much, thank you, even if things have been hard lately, we all understand all about that, though, and that's just what life hands you sometimes.

My entry for this casual prompt by love-bokumono-fics on tumblr. I like how this one came out. Tag warning for explicit alcoholism and heavily implied abuse.

Mineral Town is a lot different than Forget-me-not Valley. It's more of a cohesive small town/village rather than a ragtag group of rural folk, with a different structure altogether. It's got a church, a cop, several families, and much more gossip, it seems. I can vouch personally that the difference between a small town and collection-of-people-in-the-middle-of-nowhere is pretty notable.

Manna and Duke are clearly a toxic couple imo. Duke's an alcoholic, Manna is a gossip, and their daughter definitely had a reason to leave. I haven't played enough of the remake to know if they took down a few of those red flags for child-friendliness sake. My take is that Manna is aware of how bad it is, but actively chooses to put up with it (and blame herself, a little bit) all while saying "the neighbors do the same thing" or banking on alternatives being worse. I might do more with them eventually. For music, I listened to Joey by Concrete Blonde for the general vibes of their relationship.

I finally got a new chapter out on my Harvest Moon: Another Wonderful Life fic.

-Obviously, spoilers for the fic below-
This one was just an idea for a while, and it was a bit of a drag to write. It's one of those chapters where you kinda want something big to happen, but it's hard to make it feel big. Either way, now Aya's been forced to recon with the bad side of a chaotic goofball. Sometimes guys like that take it too far, and it's usually up to their followup actions to show whether they're just as aware of their flaws or double down and make it worse.

Navigating Aya's mental state can be tough. She is a lot harder on herself than is reasonable, and definitely has a history of giving up if things can't be perfect. She always tends to run through the catastrophic potentially bad outcomes of every choice. The games only give a bit of a glimpse into your farmer's mind, which is definitely so you can fill in the gaps with yourself, but the farmer in this one always seemed a bit timid and stressed, especially from the game's ending and how she rarely has dialogue beyond nodding or emoting. Clearly that's just for game mechanic purposes, but I like to interpret it as being a person who doesn't have much to say (which is why I liked the Gustafa heart cutscenes so much - fading to black gave us a lot to work with and at least implied she was carrying a conversation).

Also I'm pretty sure it's getting obvious what the Final Pairing is going to be. I wanted to give Rock a shot, at least, especially since the game itself is so good at forcing him on you (I think I gave him one gift the whole year and still had to be fighting his heart scenes off!)

I want to do more chapters featuring more villagers, but it's a bit of a challenge to work them in. Slice-of-life is not a usual genre for me.
